June 19, 2009 1 comment
It’s all ’bout us ‘n dance!
Stylettos, an all-female dance group formed in October 2006, specializes in street dance and jazz funk. Stylettos envisions to raise the standards of dancing through excellence and style bonded with God centered hearts. This is passion with fashion. Skill with style.

Cross Effects (XFX), an all-male dance group formed in November 2006, specializes in their own dance style that was developed through the influence of a variety of other dance genres, ranging from hip-hop to funk, house, vogue and even jazz. Dancing? They breathe it, they drink it, they eat it. They just live it. They simply jive with the rhythm that is run by passion, fueled by commitment and driven by love.

MC High School Pep Squad, a group of young spirited teens dedicated to bring pride and glory to their school – Miriam College. This group has competed in various cheering and dance competitions specifically the WNCAA Cheering Competition, which they placed in 3rd in 2008, 2nd in 2006 and champion during 2004 until 2005. Moreover, they were included in the final round of the recent Crissa Dance Competition.

These three groups with the same passion for dance will share one stage in a dance concert that will raise the standards of the craft.

WHAT’S UP WITH THE PHILIPPINE ALLSTARS?

June 18, 2009 3 comments

From PAS’ multiply site:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US.  Four years ago at this date, nabuo ang Allstars. Iba pa ang pakay namin noon. Pero kahit saan mo pala dalhin ang sarili mo, dadalhin ka ni BestFriend sa totoong path mo. Eto na kami ngayon. Same old, same old. Madami ding nabago. May mga miyembrong nawala, nadagdag. May mga natutunan, nalaman, naibahagi, naipamigay. etc. etc. So what’s next? We don’t know.  Next month na ang World Championship, and we’ve been busy preparing for it, at the same time organizing the anniversary party as a way to give back the love to you guys. Masaya pa rin. Masaya pa rin ang buhay dahil isang taon na naman ang binigay sa amin.

Anyway, here’s a little something written by Chelo who basically just loves to write. Madami kaming mga haters. Ganun talaga. Kasama yan. Kahit ang isang tambay lang sa kanto, may hater, kami pa kaya. Ngunit may mga nagsstand-out sa kanila katulad ni Allstarsux43. At siya ang topic ng bagong blog ni Chelo. Basahin.

OH GOODIE… ANOTHER HATER TO WRITE ABOUT!

I love it when haters give me somethin’ to write about! He even made an account name to hate on us! Awesome :-D

ALLSTARSUX43 posted on Philippine Allstars’ Multiply Account: March 17

It reads:

KAYA PALA WALA NA YUNG IBANG MEMBERS KASI PROBLEMS SA LOOB!BAKIT YUN MGA MAGAGALING PA NATANGGAL. SI PAT TAPOS ALLSTARS PROMOTE GOD?!?EH ANG LLANDING MGA BABAE NINYO.NAGBUBUNTIS HINDI PA KASAL!!TAMA BA YUN??WA 2009 KASI KAKAHIYA KAYO.LALO NA WALA NA YUN IBANG MEMBERS WEAK!!!

pahumble effect pa ang mga to.

kita kita na lang sa mata.losers”

Dear Allstarsux43,

“Let he who has never sinned cast the first stone…”

First, I’d like to say, Allstars has never said we are the best. Because though we believe in our talents, we are aware of the tremendous amount of other performers in the world who are probably more trained, more experienced, and more accomplished than us. Allstars has won three international titles, not just out of skill or creativity…but out of heart and blessings. If we are “weak” in your eyes, that is your opinion and you have every right to it. The only thing we can do is continue to train to be better, not to be live up to anyone’s standards, but out of love for our craft and for our group.

Secondly, Allstars has never claimed to be any religion. Most of us have our own personal relationship with God and we spiritually praise him in different ways. We have never said we are perfect Christians, Catholics or any other title, but we do give him all the glory for every accomplishment we have had. Yes getting pregnant out of wedlock is not considered very “God-ly“, but I’m sure God also frowns on creating a fake Multiply account named “allstarsux43” and proceeding to write very hate-ful words to people you do not truly know. Rest assured however, the children of Allstars members are very much loved and welcomed by their parents, wedded or not. And that might be a little more important than a marriage certificate.

Thirdly, God works in all of our hearts everyday. If you are disappointed by us somehow, do not worry or get angry, because He already worries for you. Personally, because of being part of Allstars and being guided by loved ones, I am a completely different person than I was even a year ago. I can say now, I am closer to His true vision of me and this did not happen overnight. It took many years of learning from experience, being reprimanded by friends and family, and countless whispers from Bestfriend until I stopped my self-destructive ways.  And yet, I continue to be a work in progress… So if you think some of us Allstars still need to change, instead of wasting your time bashing on us on the Internet, I ask that you take a few seconds of your day, close your eyes, clasp your hands together and say, “Lord, I pray for your sons and daughters in Allstars, keep guiding them to be the Light that you want them to be. And keep them away from what makes them imperfect in Your eyes, not mine.”

And I will do the same for you: “Lord, I pray for your sons and daughters who dislike Allstars, let them find their own path of your Light so they no longer waste precious energy on bringing negativity onto my group…” And yet again, I thank you as well. Telling me I am a weak dancer, will fuel my passion to push myself harder in dancing. It hurts to hear it said in such an uncalled-for and malicious way, but I can’t expect anyone to be tactful when they think posting comments under an alias will not back-lash at them personally.

Fourthly, whatever recent news you heard about the Allstars breaking up, that is not going to happen anytime soon. Yes, we lost five members, who we sincerely miss and still love, but our paths have to diverge sometime. We wish them the best of luck in all their endeavors… And, the remaining twelve, who are still in the group and soldiering on everyday are becoming stronger together. Though we all got a little jaded, we have stayed positive, respect and love each other, and continue to believe in the Allstars’ goals.

And as for the World Hip-hop Championships, it is not even a question that Allstars will be present. We will not only be there to proudly represent the Philippines to the best of our abilities and defend our title, but more importantly, to experience the One Love we feel in that competition every year. To us, it’s more of a reunion with the wonderful friends we’ve made from all over the world.

Thus,  “tama na yan’’ guys… Although I enjoy writing blogs about your mean comments, I don’t have a lot of time these days. Do your thang and we’ll do ours. Don’t worry about what we do. Worry about how you can inspire others and build a better world instead. LOL. I sound like I’m running for Presidency.  One Up to the Most High ya’ll, it’s all Good with a Capital G!!!

Your girl, Chelo Aestrid, 4/9/09

I and my extended family are a conservative of sorts.I am in my 40s and already quite uptight. I heard of you from my sister, as expected, I had dismissed her constant incessant reminders for me to watch you guys perform through youtube. Believe me, upon watching you in your world performances, I got choked up and sobbung that it humbled me even before our God Almighty. You guys are right in saying you have nothing to prove, but…. YOU HAVE ALREADY SHOWN IT!!! I was wrong to judge you. You rock!!! Continue on with your good causes, goals and aspirations, if you remain to be right with God, nothing else would be so wrong :-) !

Pole Dancing – Fun or Fitness?

June 16, 2009 9 comments
Pole Dancing

A fun way to get fit, increase flexibility, improve posture, tone up, burn calories and improve confidence… Kelly Olsen introduces you to the world of pole dancing.

Pole Dancing – Fun or Fitness?

By Kelly Olsen

Gold hot pants, the lithe sensual movements of your body and the shaking of your bottom – all of this is the fun that is pole dancing.

This is possibly the most controversial fitness trend I can think of, but what better way to have a great laugh, get fit and tone up?

Pole Dancing – Mix It and Climb It!

Usually the classes are women only and a mix of erotic dancing, making pleasure faces and doing quite physical moves using funky music.

Pole Dancing is about having fun, first and foremost and certainly most classes will teach you half a dozen basic moves including how to climb the pole – not easy I can tell you!

Other moves include twirling, spinning and swinging plus those all important static moves posing to the audience.

The classes are not intended to train you professionally. They are there to welcome women of all ages and sizes in order to get fit, increase flexibility, improve posture, tone up, burn calories and improve confidence.

Most classes also offer tips on striptease and table dancing. Hen parties centred on lessons in Pole-dancing have become very popular and a great way to have a memorable giggle and earn the calories for the night out afterwards.

Exercise Benefits of Pole Dancing

  • Burning Calories – can burn as many as 250 calories which is similar to a good gym session
  • Builds Muscle and Tones – supporting your entire weight with one arm can be challenging and will build your upper body. It also helps strengthen your stomach muscles and you can, if you go regularly expect to see increased muscle definition in your bottom, arms and thighs
  • Beats The Winter Blues – the physical exertion makes your body release the happy hormones – endorphins making you feel better and more energetic

Reality TV?

The BBC are reported to be developing ‘Strictly Come Pole-Dancing’ for Sport Relief and predictably there are dissenters, but the BBC insist it is just a bit of fun to raise money for deserving causes.

What to Wear Or Not!

  • Shorts or if you are feeling brave hot pants. You need bare legs to grip the pole
  • Trainers for the warm up
  • High heels – they help with the strut

Conclusion

Yes it’s fun and yes it helps get you fit.

Whilst fitness goals differ from person to person, Pole dancing certainly helps tone, strengthen and is aerobic. If your fitness goals are more significant, you may still need to get to that gym in addition to strutting your stuff.
