I just saw this in yesterday’s newspaper and man, another dance-movie is coming up. It isn’t as crazy as You got served or Step Up or what have you. It’s called Make it Happen and the synopsis goes:
Lauryn is a girl from small-town Indiana who moves to Chicago with dreams of entering the Chicago School of Music and Dance. But after rejection and a series of misfortunes she finds herself working in a burlesque club. The club proves to be a place of conflict and self-discovery, helping Lauryn to realize that even though plans may change, dreams never do.
From the writer of Save the Last Dance and Step Up and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead (DEATH PROOF, DIE HARD 4.0) MAKE IT HAPPEN is the uplifting story of how hard work and determination can make any dream come true.
The movie looks nothing new. I think the Soundtrack’s something to look forward too. BTW, check out the music in 1:29. It’s pretty sweet. It’s “We Rule by Ak’sent” gotta look it up.
Groove Luzon Qualification Finals was held in Teatro Marikina, Marikina city last September 20, 2008. The next qualification leg will be on the 27th of September in PASEO Open Market (Cebu City). The night was crazy as it featured 40 dance crews that showcased various styles of hip hop. If I’m not mistaken, 20 are chosen out of the 40 and most routines have bboys and krumps set-up. Here is the top 3 crews that managed to qualify in that leg. I still can’t find a video of Dance X’ performance.
Here’s GrooveTV’s take on that crazy event:
“The Manila Qualification event was rocking. The best crews in the Luzon region came down ready for war. The benchmark: the world champions Philippine Allstars. Dancers lined up early to prepare and meet their opponents. By the end of the night, everyone was hyped after witnessing some of the most exhilirating performances in history. PINOY HIPHOP, Dance X and Aligma finished one, two and three. The Top 20 will advance into the NATIONALS on October 11 against the best crews from Visayas and Mindanao.”
1st: Pinoy Hip Hop [I don't think this is their video in the competition, this is just for those who do not know them, I'll upload their routine when I get one. Keep on Checkin'! Thanks!]
Last September 20, 2008 was the Skechers’ Street Dance Battle Year 4 Kick-off party. The night started at around 9 o’clock-ish and pretty much a lot of the crews/groups from various schools attended. Man it was like a total hip hop fashion galore right there. You could really see the different hip-hop-ish get-up from those who attended. The event was hosted by JC Cuadrado and performances from Jimmy Marquez[sp]?, UP Street Dance Club and Sandwich. Skecher had their annual Streetstyle and Street Dance Battle. I’ll be uploading the vids of the event soon. Do keep checkin’ Dance Manila. While you’re at it, why don’t you take time to scan around the blog site some more! Peace!
Okay, some more on the Philippine Allstars (other than having cool new shirts). They performed last September 14, 2008 in Singapore. Hip Hop Generation invited them along with International Rap Breakthrough Artists Modenine and Terry tha Rapman. The event’s hosted by Freaky Z with Special Appearances of the Filipino Dance Club, Fantastic Kidz and Fantastic Four. Photos of the event to follow. Here are a few vids from the event.
Yes, there you go! The Love in this club routine is the same one they performed in their victory party. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out. It’s really nice.
Haven’t you guys heard that too much of something is bad enough. Haha. Yeah, you probably have guessed it right, I’m just a bit lazy to get something going. Actually, I’m a bit pissed because I can’t find the fire-wire for my video cam. I’m supposedly be uploading some vids from the Skechers 4 Kick-off party. Anyway, be expecting them on the next two or three days.
Okay, so what I have right now is the girl from Oprah, Charice, in some Celine Dion concert. My mom likes to sing along with this song so hell, ima post it. Seriously, this girl got game. Be sure to not skip Celine Dion’s introduction, man, Charice really is inspiring. Just goes to show how talented Filipinos (yes! even if I try hard to talk in english-slangish-thing I forbid myself from calling Filipinos – flips or something like that) are and that their skills and capabilities are at par if not better than the rest of the world!
Two weeks ago was Philippine Allstars Victory Party. It took me like forever to get this article done with. It was in Embassy Club, The Fort last September 10, 2008 and it was around 9 o’clock-ish. There were song numbers, three dance routines by the group (WHHC, the one with the Kiss Kiss part, Love in this club) and a lot of cypher goin’. Wasn’t able to save any of the cypher vids (file’s too large). I wasn’t able to vid the Love in this Club routine (man it’s so smooth, gotta wait for my post on their SG trip for a vid of it) but I got two vids for you.
The one with the Kiss Kiss music
2008 World Hip Hop Routine
You just can’t get enough of that 2008 WHHC routine. Anyway, that’ll be all for now. Enjoy!
I’ve been receiving a lot of mails to get these two guys on the blog-site. Most of their choreographies are of Laid-Back style and LA Hip Hop and man they bring it! Erik Javier and Louie Canaria are both from the very talented University of the Philippines Los Banos Street Jazz Dance Club (elbi) and they share their amazing talents in Groove Central. Those who truly enjoy the Laid Back or LA style will really find bliss in their classes. Here’s a few of their vids, Enjoy!
